Arrow Slits

A lightly clouded sky, peppered perhaps endless clear bright
blue. You are the resplendent sun who will not touch
me with your hot helium hands.
I have already forgotten
the shape of your hydrogen fire face and yet I followed the hem of your molten cape into this hell a glassless window out of reach still standing on tip toes
in the narrow tomb roomed staircase of the North Tower. Cheek bones tilted towards
some aspect of your divine warmth whose outer walls
are four foot wide. Narrow
ledges lead to arrow slits
where deadly bows no longer quiver the area of a circle
or a parabola.
So many fat-legged babies conceived using this method of exhaustion each perfectly drawn with liquid lead on crumbling sandstone.
